British teenager arrested at Miami airport

A British teenager was arrested in Miami after allegedly trying to smuggle 30lbs of cocaine from Jamaica - hidden in cake mix. Ayesha Olivia Niles, from London, was arrested after she arrived on a night flight from the Caribbean island with two suitcases, according to U.S. authorities. The student, who turned 18 while in custody, was selected for screening at Miami International Airport customs and agents found 24 boxes of cake mix in her luggage. On inspection, they found 29.3lbs of cocaine, according to the arrest report. Niles claimed she did not know what the substance was but admitted 'she suspected that the activity she was involved in was suspicious but she did not question it', according to officers. She had been due to make an onward connection to London. Niles has been held at Miami's juvenile detention centre since her arrest on October 21, but is likely to face charges of cocaine trafficking as an adult.
