A 200level Mathematics student of the University of Benin known as Snazzy was shot in the head by an unknown gun man around 2pm yesterday afternoon during the biometrics registration held in the university sports complex.

Eye witnesses say the gunman dropped the gun and disappeared into the crowd before he could be identified. Snazzy was immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Don't know for sure if he died or survived. Will update as soon as I have confirmation

The federal government Friday expressed shock over the death of the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Donald Onukaogu and four others in a car crash on their way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Also Friday, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State called for a probe of the riot that led to the death of two students and the destruction of property worth millions of naira at the University of Uyo.

Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa'i said in a statement from the ministry Friday in Abuja “the passing of the NANS leaders in such manner was painful.”

Sporting a £169 dalmatian print coat from high street retailer, Hobbs, which she accessorised with classic black court shoes and a neat black fascinator, the Duchess walked up the royal blue carpet to a rousing musical welcome courtesy of the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth and The Pipe Band of 1st Battalion Irish Guards.

Photos: Scrap plane spotted being towed in Lagos

Relax people, no plane crash landed in Lagos yesterday. According NEMA spokesperson, the plane spotted on the streets of Lagos last night/early this morning is the scrap of an aircraft that was evacuated from the airport last night after the federal government issued a directive that all scrap aircraft be evacuated from all airports. The aircraft was spotted being towed along Mangoro and later seen at a gas station.

Riot at University of Uyo leaves one student dead

The Engineering students of the University of Uyo this afternoon went for a peaceful demonstration to the office of the school's Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, after the VC mandated students to pay N100 for the school bus which used to be free. The school management had shifted most of the Science student courses to the school's permanent site which is about 20 minutes drive from the main campus, and then made the shuttle N100. That means students will have to pay N200 to and fro everyday to the permanent campus for most of their lectures.

This was what the students were protesting this afternoon when things went crazy. The peaceful protest turned violent after security officials at the V.C's office tried to stop the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor.

The students allegedly retaliated by throwing stones at the security officials, who then called for police back-up which led to the riot. The police arrived the scene and aggravated the situation by firing shots at the students, killing at least one student. Some say two. Some say three.

Angry students now proceeded to burn down the VC's office, the exams and records building, and a security office. Students have been evacuated from the hostel, and the school has been shut down indefinitely.

Four Teenagers Take Turns In Raping 14-Year Old Girl In Lagos

                                                                   The victim's home The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four boys for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the Mile 12 area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, Wale Badejo, Jubril Yusuf, Olusanya Remi and Wale Oluwafemi, who are between the ages 18 and 19, allegedly abducted the victim on her way to school and took turns raping her.

According to the police, the suspects held the victim for over seven hours and threatened to kill her if she told anybody about what happened to her.
